The Lakeville Police Department has a new member on its force. Fredo a 21 month old German Shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic has officially completed a 16 week Patrol School with Officer Jack Taylor as his handler. Officer Taylor and Fredo are ready to hit the road as a K-9 Team, the first one since the early 70’s. Fredo was brought to the town from the efforts of fundraising done by Officer Taylor. The K-9 Unit benefited from the generous people of Lakeville who realized a police K-9 would be a great asset for the Town. Officer Taylor was selected by the Massachusetts Elks Association to receive payment for the purchase of Fredo in a Lottery for Public Safety.
The Functions of the K-9 program include but are not limited to:
- Conducting search and rescue operations for children and elderly
- Tracking and trailing
- Evidence recovery
- Building searches
- Perimeter containment
- Apprehension and protection
- Containing and controlling civil disturbances and public disaster response
- Tactical mission support
- Crowd control
